In this issue, Top 10 of Malaysia takes a brief look at the top ten inspiring agricultural products companies (listed in Bursa Malaysia and presented in no particular order) that have emerged as leading companies in the agricultural business.
Rhone Ma Holdings Berhad
Established in 2010, Rhone Ma Holdings Berhad is led by Dr Lim Ban Keong and the company is an animal health solution provider, integrating the provision of animal health services as well as the manufacturing and distribution of animal health products. Besides, it also engages in the distribution and supply of food ingredients as well as human healthcare services. Its subsidiaries, Asia-Pacific Special Nutrients Sdn Bhd involves in the trading of feed additives and nutritional feed ingredients while Link Ingredients Sdn Bhd, which was established in 2007, supplies food ingredients to the food industry. Among the ingredients produced by Link Ingredients are starches, modified starches, vegetable powders and these ingredients are sold to bakeries and confectioneries.
DBE Gurney Resources Berhad
DBE Gurney Resources Berhad was incorporated in Malaysia in 2001 as a private limited company under the name of DBE Gurney Resources Sdn Bhd. Led by Dato’ Alex Ding, DBE is in the business of poultry farming and operates principally in Malaysia. The company’s activities include operating integrated poultry broiler farms, processing plants, feed productions, and trading of farm products and materials. It also markets food and beverages under registered brands such as HARUMi and also collaborates with its Taiwanese partners in planning, researching and conducting surveys so that they could introduce Taiwanese food to people in the country. DBE has 23 HARUMi kiosks, 10 HARUMi food trucks, 10 HARUMi restaurants and 2 Harumi express outlets.
QL Resources Berhad
Led by Dr Chia Song Kun, QL Resources Berhad is one of Malaysia’s multinational agro-food corporations. Besides being known as one of Asia’s largest egg producer and surimi manufacturers, QL is also building a presence in the sustainable palm oil sector with activities such as milling, plantations and production of biomass clean energy. On the other hand, QL is also one of the leading distributors of animal feed and the company operates locally, provides supplies throughout Malaysia and also to countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and China. In addition, it also supplies fishmeal, surimi and frozen food to countries such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Spain, Portugal and North America while its livestock sector supplies eggs to countries such as the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Brunei and Hong Kong.
Leong Hup International Berhad
Leong Hup International Berhad is led by Tan Sri Lau Tuang Nguang and the company produces quality feed from feedmills locally and also in countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam. It is one of the largest fully integrated producers of poultry, eggs and livestock feed in Southeast Asia with branches in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines. The feed production is produced by raw materials such as corn and soybean meal, which is conducted under strict quality-controlled environment in order to produce feed of the highest standard. Leong Hup also produces broiler chickens, breeds day old chicks and produces Grade A to F fresh eggs and premium branded eggs enriched with Omega-3 fatty acid and Lutein.
Bahvest Resources Berhad
Led by Datuk Lo Fui Ming, Bahvest Resources Berhad was established in 2004 with five wholly-owned subsidiaries, which are Wullersdorf Resources Sdn Bhd, Plentiful Harvest Sdn Bhd, Marine Terrace Sdn Bhd, Salient Horizon Sdn Bhd and Plentiful Earnings Sdn Bhd (all collectively referred to as “Bahvest Group”). The group contributes to Malaysia’s aquaculture industry and is involved in the entire process of sustainable aquaculture such as broodstock management, research and development, breeding, hatching, rearing, production of live feed, marketing, transportation of live fishes and distribution of fish products. It also trades its fish products in Hong Kong and China and distributes them to the local distributors.
Teo Seng Capital Berhad
Incorporated in 1978, Teo Seng Capital Berhad is led by Nam Hiok Joo. The principle activities of Teo Seng’s subsidiaries are poultry farming and marketing of chicken eggs, manufacturing and marketing of animal feeds, production of egg trays and organic fermented fertilizer plus providing animal health care with quality products and customized solutions. The company is one of the largest commercial egg producers in Malaysia with daily egg production of 4 million. The poultry farms are operating under the globally recognised All-In-All-Out management system and accredited with Malaysian Good Agricultural Practice by the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia. Happy Egg is the premium brand of Teo Seng and different commercial egg products are launched under the brand, such as Omega plus Lutein, Fresh Farm Eggs and Hi-Fresh.
CAB Cakaran Corporation Berhad
Led by Chuah Hoon Phong, CAB Cakaran Corporation Berhad is one of Malaysia’s largest food producers that produce high quality food from their poultry farms and also through other food-related businesses. Its integrated poultry farming, which is located in Penang, Kedah and Malacca, includes activities such as rearing grand-parent stock, parent stock farming and hatchery activities while its broiler farming activities are located throughout the Peninsular Malaysia. On the other hand, CAB Cakaran’s produce of chicken and chicken parts are also processed by companies such as Kyros Food Industries Sdn Bhd, Farm’s Best Food Industries Sdn Bhd and HK Food (M) Sdn Bhd.
Lay Hong Berhad
Lay Hong Berhad is led by Dato’ Yeap Weng Hong, Dato’ Yap Chor How and Ng Kim Tian and the company carries out mass production of chicken eggs, liquid eggs, chilled and frozen dressed chicken, chicken parts and processed chicken products such as frankfurters, nuggets and fried chicken. Its products are marketed under the brands, Nutriplus and Wise Choice. The company is one of the leading producers of fresh farm eggs in Malaysia and it processes chickens by using air-chilled technology.
PWF Consolidated Berhad
Established in 1997 and led by Dato’ Siah Gim Eng, PWF Consolidated Berhad is one of Malaysia’s leading integrated poultry producer with business activities which includes broiler farming, broiler breeder farming, layer farming, poultry processing and trading of raw materials. PWF has 4 breeder farms located in Malacca, Perak and Kedah, producing a total of above 2.5 million day-old-chicks each month. The farms are also well-equipped with temperature-controlled and automated feeding and drinking systems. It also has one of the largest broiler farms in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia with a total of more than 70 broiler farms in Penang, Kedah and Perak. PWF produces over 30 million live broilers and sells them to the markets at the northern and central Peninsular Malaysia. Its main clients are wholesalers, wet market retailers and owners of chicken processing plants.
TPC Plus Berhad
TPC Plus Berhad is led by Lim Yew Chua and the company is well-known for its poultry farming, eggs production and feed mill operations. It engages in production, grading, packaging, selling of eggs and also producing poultry feed. TPC is also one of the leading marketers and distributors of chicken eggs in Malaysia. Among the different kinds of chicken eggs sold by TPC are brown eggs, sandy eggs, omega eggs and liquid eggs.
