edotco Group (‘edotco’) clinches two awards at the Sustainable Business Awards Malaysia 2020/21, one of Asia’s most prestigious corporate sustainability awards programmes. The recognition validates the Group’s commitment to best ESG practices that are aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“These recognitions attest to our efforts, and spur us on in our ambition to become a global Top 5 Next Generation Tower Company. Sustainability is a key pillar embedded in our business strategy and across our operations, which focuses on achieving sustainable growth,” commented Adlan Tajudin, Chief Executive Officer of edotco Group. “To ensure accelerated sustainable success, our business strategy is backed by a holistic future-proof modern workforce model that supercharges people transformation in this new norm world.”

As the first telecommunications company in Malaysia to become a signatory member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the company embedded the 10 Principles on Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-Corruption into its strategies, policies, procedure and culture.

Looking ahead, Adlan added: “We are committed to enhancing the telecommunications industry sustainably with next-generation engineering and continuing to be nation-building partners in all the countries we operate. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with all ecosystem partners to deliver real benefits in a sustainable manner to enhancing the lives of all people both regionally and globally.”

edotco Group was recognised for its outstanding and continuous commitment to these sustainability pillars: Workforce Category – Winner and Energy Management Category – Significant Achievements.

edotco’s winning strengths in the Workforce category highlighted its resilience across three strategic lenses: People, Leadership and Ways of Working in the backdrop of the pandemic that hits the world in 2020. The Group approaches workforce resilience by enhancing the operating model and doubling up on talent investment.

Responding to uncertainties brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, edotco quickly adjusted to the new norm while dealing with differing market complexities and sustaining a highly engaged workforce, leveraging on five key pillars; virtual and media-rich delivery model, cultivating a culture of self-learning /upskilling, focused on micro and modular learnings, embedded into employees’ daily workflow, futuristic digital competencies to deliver value in a new reality and consistent and frequent communications and engagement. edotco continuously champions the deployment of renewable energy solutions to reduce the dependency on diesel on its sites.

To date, the Group has deployed ~1800 solar and 12 wind turbine sites, which resulted in 100% carbon emissions reductions compared to grid electricity and diesel. edotco also deployed outdoor sites to reduce the requirement for air conditioning, while eOPTI, an inhouse patent-pending solution, was developed to optimised energy designs. All these initiatives path our way towards edotco’s carbon-neutral ambition by 2030, for which innovation and sustainability are integrated into the business strategies. The Group also engages with various stakeholders, including employees, tenants and communities, to improve awareness of energy management.

Organised by Global Initiatives, the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) winners were comprehensively assessed based on a scoring framework co-developed with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), followed by a National Advisory Panel (NAP) evaluation. The Awards recognises leadership in corporate sustainability across 12 categories, including sustainability strategy, community, energy and water management, supply chain, and ethics. The 2020/21 Malaysia Awards were held with the presence of Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy).
