A powerhouse name in Malaysia’s entertainment landscape, Hazama Azmi continues to leave an enduring mark with his dynamic artistry. In this exclusive feature, Top 10 of Malaysia sits down with the multifaceted performer as he reflects on his journey and offers insight into what it takes to thrive in today’s ever-evolving industry.
Celebrated for his versatility across genres, Hazama shares how his perspective has transformed over time. What once began as a singular focus on music has expanded alongside the industry itself. Today, he embraces his identity as a modern entertainer, driven by a mission to captivate audiences beyond music, venturing confidently into acting and other creative pursuits that redefine the boundaries of performance.
As the conversation turns to the forces behind his unwavering commitment to music and the path that led him to a successful singing career, he shares, “At the core of everything is passion. It was that deep love for singing that pushed me when I first stepped into the industry. And as I continued on this journey, a growing sense of responsibility as an artist became what sustained me.”

With millions of views on YouTube and more than 100,000 monthly listeners across streaming platforms, it’s evident that Hazama’s music continues to resonate strongly with Malaysians. Alongside that success, he opens up about the challenges behind the journey, sharing, “One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced is building a name for myself and then sustaining everything I’ve worked hard to create. At the same time, in today’s landscape, I have to constantly adapt to new technologies, stay in tune with current trends, and keep experimenting to understand what audiences want.”
Speaking on how he navigates these challenges, he emphasises the importance of staying connected to people. “It’s crucial to understand how people think. Even the way people experience love has changed. In the past, people expressed it through letters, and songs reflected that. Now, everything happens through messaging—so naturally, the emotions and storytelling have evolved too.”
“Because of that, we can’t remain static. Our mindset and creative approach have to keep evolving, because the industry is constantly moving. One way I manage this is by speaking with experienced individuals, having conversations and seeking advice—not only from those within the industry. I’m always open to different perspectives.”

Now also recognised as an actor, the conversation turns to what inspired Hazama to step beyond music and explore a new creative path. He shares, “When I first entered the entertainment industry, my sole focus was on becoming a singer. But after I had established myself in music, I was given the opportunity to venture into acting. What initially encouraged me was when I looked up to industry icons like Dato’ M. Nasir, Dato’ Awie and Dato’ Amy Search, who had successfully navigated both singing and acting.”
He added, “That was what first pushed me to try. But once I experienced it for myself, I realised how much it actually benefited my singing career and exploring acting enhanced me as an artist. I used to struggle with being camera shy and even had stage fright. Through acting, I gained a new perspective on performance and learned how to elevate my presence on stage.”
Despite having major milestones like hit songs that are still loved a decade later, Hazama shares that a dream project or new artistic direction he would want to explore next would be venturing into directing. “Whether it’s a telemovie, drama or even a film, I know it’s a much more complex field with a huge level of responsibility, but it’s something I aspire to go into because it brings together every aspect of the craft.”

“To me, success is about lasting power—being able to remain relevant over time. Another form of success is when you create music that truly resonates, when listeners genuinely connect with your work. For a real artist, success lies in leaving a lasting impression—when your art continues to live on in people’s hearts for years to come,” Hazama explains as music continues to evolve and he views longevity as the true marker of success in the industry today.
Listed as one of Malaysia’s respected artists for his contributions to the local music scene, Hazama offers a thoughtful reminder to aspiring talents still finding their footing in today’s industry. He shares, “There’s no need to chase a ‘perfect’ voice, because what sounds good is ultimately subjective. In my opinion, to become a singer, you should discover the narrative you want to express through your music. When that story resonates with you, it will resonate with others too. Let it be something honest and relatable.” He adds, “Beyond that, I wish you all the best. Sing in a space where you feel comfortable, because comfort allows your voice to shine.”
