Ella Aminuddin: The Everlasting Spirit of Malaysian Rock

May 12, 2026

Widely known as “Malaysia’s Queen of Rock,” Top 10 of Malaysia had the opportunity to speak with Ella Aminuddin about the journey that continues to define her enduring success. Reflecting on her place in today’s music scene, she shares, “I’ve carried the title ‘Ratu Rock’ for many years. In the beginning, I found it a little cringeworthy, but over time, I’ve learned to embrace it with pride and a deep sense of responsibility. More than just a title, I see myself as an artist who has stood the test of time — someone who continues to evolve while remaining true to who I am. The industry will always change, but authenticity is what keeps you relevant. If I were to introduce myself today, I’d say I’m still evolving — an artist with more than 40 years of experience who is still growing.”

Ella’s successful journey in music has always been driven by a deep love for the art itself, a passion that continues to shape her dedication to this day. Fame was never something she actively pursued; instead, she simply followed what she loved, and over time, that passion evolved into a greater sense of purpose. Today, what motivates Ella Aminuddin most is knowing that her music continues to connect with audiences across different generations.

As a celebrated icon — further cemented by Ella Aminuddin’s achievement in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2023 for selling 10,000 concert tickets within 24 hours alongside staging multiple sold-out shows, she reflects on the challenges that come with longevity in the entertainment industry. According to her, every era brings a different set of obstacles as trends evolve, new talents emerge, and audience expectations continue to change. “But I never believed in stopping,” she says. “I believe in adapting, staying disciplined and constantly improving myself. In this industry, having your own identity is what allows you to remain relevant for decades.”

With major milestones under her belt, Ella shared that the philosophy guiding both her creative vision and professional journey has always remained simple. She emphasised the importance of treating those around her with kindness while always appreciating the unwavering support of her fans. “Without them, I would not have come this far,” she mentions. Ella also believes that regardless of how long one has been in the industry, there is always room to learn and evolve. For her, growth is a continuous lifelong process, and becoming too comfortable is something she has never allowed herself to do.

When the conversation shifts to dream projects and potential new artistic directions, Ella says, “I am drawn to projects that can inspire people, whether through music, visual storytelling, or collaborations across different generations of artists,” she explains. For her, it is no longer simply about producing more work, but about creating something meaningful and timeless that leaves a lasting impact. She also expresses interest in potentially developing a platform or initiative dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of rock artists.

As someone who continues to balance multiple business ventures while thriving as an entertainer, Ella reflects on how her definition of success has evolved throughout her career. She reveals that during the early years of her journey in music, success was largely centred around recognition and proving that she belonged in the industry — especially as a female rocker navigating a genre largely dominated by men. Today, however, her perspective has shifted significantly. “Success is now about legacy,” she explains. “It is about creating an impact and knowing that what I have built will continue to inspire others long after my time.”

Recognised as one of Malaysia’s most respected artists for her lasting contributions to the Malaysia’s music scene, Ella Aminuddin also shares words of encouragement for rising talents in today’s fast-moving music landscape. She emphasises the importance of self-awareness and authenticity before allowing outside influences to shape one’s identity. “Know who you are before the world tries to define you.” “Build your foundation — your voice, your discipline and your identity. Just be yourself. There is only one of you in this world. If you stay authentic and committed to your craft, you will eventually find your place,” she adds.
