Malaysia’s Top Young Female Entrepreneurs
In the last 30 years, Malaysian women have been impacting the nation’s economic activities to a considerable extent. It is not at all surprising as they were already active in business since a long time ago. Their ability and drive to rise above the challenges in the business environment as entrepreneurs has inspired others to seize, or to even create, opportunities for themselves in these modern times. In this issue, Top 10 Malaysia takes a look at its list of the nation’s top 10 young, inspiring female entrepreneurs (presented in random order) and their achievements.
Mi-Ki Choong is the Co-founder and Group Strategist of Centurise Group, a company involved in property development, media and information technology. Besides that, she is also a television personality on the TV show, ‘LifeInStyle’ which she created, co-produced and hosted. She has also appeared in numerous television shows and radio programmes like Bella NTV7 and BFM89.9, as well as spoken at international forums like the ‘Women in Leadership Forum Asia 2013’. In 2007, Mi-Ki launched the Group’s new product, MyStyle, a mobile discount voucher facility. Despite her success in television, radio and information technology, Mi-Ki is now focusing on property development and investments.
Candice Lee is co-founder of True North Asia Sdn Bhd, a company specialising in holistic financial education. Candice had started her entrepreneurial journey with Prudential Assurance Singapore and is currently running 3 companies. She is also holding key positions in several companies in financial education, marketing and investment. Her vision to provide holistic financial education inspired her to set up the Financial Youth Intelligence Sdn Bhd that pioneers the creation of opportunities for young Malaysians to learn about money management, investing, personal excellence and entrepreneurship. In 2010, Candice was one of the speakers at the Malaysia Young Female Entrepreneurs (MYFEN) Forum in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr Khoo Kien Ling
Founder of ADAMAS Weddings and ADAMAS School of Weddings, Dr Khoo Kien Ling received her doctorate in Computational Modelling and Dielectric Properties of the Hollandite from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom at the age of 25. This Certified Wedding Specialist and President of Weddings Beautiful Malaysia & Singapore is also the Vice President of Malaysia Young Female Entrepreneur Network (MYFREN). Dr Khoo is also the author of the book, “99 Tips For Your Wedding” and was a finalist in the ‘Rising Star – Female’ Category in the US-based Event Solutions Spotlight Awards 2011 and 2013. She was also named Top 30 Women on Business Success and Equality by SME Magazine.
Emilia Tan is the founder of TMSArt Marketing

Goh Ai Ching
Penang-born Goh Ai Ching is the co-founder of Piktochart, a web application that helps people with no design experience to create beautiful infographics, a popular medium to share information on the web. Within 8 weeks after its start-up in 2011, Piktochart had 15,000 accounts, 10,000 infographics created and saved, and 200 Pro users. Today it has over 400, 000 users and count Harvard University, Cornell University, Deloitte, World Wildlife Fund, Marriott, Red Bull and General Electric amongst their Pro users. Piktochart was the grand winner of the Silicon Valley Comes To Malaysia (SVC2M) 2011-12 event.
Huen Su Yin
Huen Su Yin is the founder of C.A.K.E. Sdn Bhd, an establishment selling premium designer cakes, cupcakes and baked sweets under the Delectable brand. Currently she has 4 Delectable outlets, at the Pavilion Mall (Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur) and the Paradigm Mall (Kelana Jaya, Selangor),and 2 at the Gardens Mall (Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur). Su Yin, a graduate of the Notterschool of Pastry Arts in Florida, USA under the European Pastry Programme, started her journey to where she is now during her days as a student in Sydney, Australia doing her degree course in Construction Management at the University of New South Wales.
Violet Lim and her husband, Jamie Lee, founded Lunch Actually, Asia’s first lunch dating specialist who arranges fun and quality dates for busy single professionals in a discreet, fun and relaxed environment. The establishment provides its services from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong and has arranged some 20,000 dates during the past 8 years where 85 per cent of these matches were rated by customers as satisfactory to excellent. Violet was the first Asian to be certified by the Matchmaking Institute, New York, USA in matchmaking and is a member of the Institute’s Board of Professional and Certified Matchmakers.
What started out as a pastime for Kricia Bong 5 years ago, turned out to be a commercial success for her. Today, the Kuching-born Kricia, is the owner of Notbook-Notbuk, a collection of handcrafted journals, planners, sketch books and greeting cards. Kricia’s unique creations are sold online and at selected concept stores in the Klang Valley, Sabah and Sarawak. Her love for stationery and crafting had inspired her to start Notbook-Notbuk in 2012 while she was still working as a graphic designer. To date, Notbook-Notbuk has been featured internationally through online and print media such as Girlfriend, Cosmopolitan, Young Republic and Etsy.
Adelaine LK Foo
Adelaine is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Otomotif College, a college in Petaling Jaya, Selangor aimed at producing quality automotive technicians. Despite the initial challenges in setting up the college, Adelaine saw the whole project through and is now proud so see her graduates carving a niche for themselves in the nation’s automotive industry. Adelaine has won numerous awards for her entrepreneurial spirit, the most recent one being the 2012 winner in the ‘Educational Service’ category of the Asia-Pacific Enterprise Leadership Awards (APELA). Married with 3 children, Adelaine has a Masters of Arts in East Asian Studies from the University of California, USA.
